How I Opened My Amazon Store — and How You Can Open Yours
Amazon · Store guide
- Millionsof buyers already searching
- 2 plansIndividual or Professional
- FBAAmazon can ship for you
The first time I searched for my own product on Amazon and saw it there — next to brands I’d bought from for years — I couldn’t stop smiling. It felt impossible. It wasn’t. It was a list of steps, done one by one.
Amazon is the biggest store in the world: the customers are already there, searching, with their cards ready. Your job isn’t to bring them — it’s to make sure that when they search, they find you.
Why Amazon?
- Instant traffic: people go to Amazon to buy, not to browse.
- Trust: buyers trust Amazon’s checkout and returns.
- Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA): you can send your stock to Amazon and they pack, ship and handle customer service.
Not sure if your product is right for Amazon? Let’s look at it together.

The mistakes I made (so you don’t)
- Starting with too many products instead of one that works.
- Rushing photos — on Amazon, your photos are your salesperson.
- Not reading the fees before pricing. Always calculate your real profit first.
You don’t need a huge budget to start. You need one good product, a clear listing and the patience to improve it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sell on Amazon if I don't live in the U.S.?
Yes. Amazon accepts sellers from many countries, and each marketplace (Amazon.ca, Amazon.com and others) has its own registration. You'll need identity documents, a bank account that can receive payments and a valid card. Requirements vary by country, so check Seller Central for yours.
Which selling plan should I choose?
Amazon usually offers an Individual plan, where you pay per item sold, and a Professional plan with a monthly fee. The Individual plan fits a small test; the Professional plan makes sense once you sell regularly. Check the current fees in Seller Central before choosing.
What is FBA and do I need it?
FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) means you send your stock to Amazon's warehouses and Amazon packs, ships and handles returns. It saves time and helps with fast delivery, but it has storage and fulfillment fees. Many sellers start shipping themselves and move to FBA when volume grows.
Can I sell any product?
No. Some categories and brands are restricted or need approval, and some products need safety documents. Check the category requirements before buying inventory, not after.
How do I calculate if a product is profitable?
Add up everything: product cost, shipping to you or to Amazon, Amazon's referral fee, fulfillment fees and advertising. What's left is your real margin. Amazon has a revenue calculator that helps you estimate this before you commit.
Why are reviews so important?
On Amazon, buyers decide fast and reviews are often the deciding factor. Deliver on time, describe the product honestly and answer questions quickly. Never pay or offer anything for reviews — it's against Amazon's policies and can close your account.
